The Obsidian Skull Press Editorial Team

Before we dive into what is coming out of the shadows, meet the beautiful maniacs driving this tectonic shift at Obsidian Skull Press:

We are growing, and it is all thanks to YOU!

The incredible support from our community has paved the way for massive changes at Obsidian Skull Press. We are elevating everything we do to bring you the absolute best in dark, horror, and speculative fiction from unsung voices across the void.

Meet the Team

💀 Maya (La Verdadera Jefa) – The absolute ruler of the entire operation. While the rest of the team argues about commas, cosmic dread, and marketing metrics, Maya sits at the top of the food chain keeping the entire crew from eating each other alive.

💀 TL Hutton (Founder, Publisher & Editorial Director / Author – A roots-deep Mexican-Cherokee creator who built this entire press from the soil up. He founded this mad house to reclaim narrative power, shatter tired genre tropes, and rewrite history. Known for writing texts so brilliantly exhaustive they require their own structural layout maps.

💀 Devon Kutchlen (Managing Editor & MS Acquisitions) – The gatekeeper of our executive operations and manuscript sorting. Devon spends his days diving into the slush pile, hunting for raw, untamed talent with enough jagged edges to survive the light of day.

💀 Katie Dockeray (Senior Editor) – A literary surgeon with a red pen. Katie handles deep editorial development, carving away the fat and helping our authors sharpen their darkest, most twisted concepts into polished masterpieces.

💀 Lee Gelwicks (Chief Creative Officer) – Our high priest of visual design. Lee orchestrates the art direction and visual aesthetics of the press, ensuring our covers, layouts, and brand identity look every bit as lethal, sharp, and elemental as the fiction we publish.

💀 Kennedy Walsh (Project Editor) – The tactical operator driving our creative project timelines and promotional launches. Kennedy pushes our books past traditional industry boundaries, making sure our stories smash through the status quo rather than just knocking on the door.

💀 Kristen Paiva (Editorial Assistant & Slushpile Slayer) – The grim reaper of our submissions inbox and the organizational backbone keeping this chaotic team on track. Fresh out of Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Kristen spends her days wading through the endless sea of unsolicited manuscripts, mercilessly executing the bad ones so only the truly wicked survive. If a manuscript vanishes into the void or our editorial calendar actually runs on time, Kristen is the one holding the scythe.

💀 Draften Scribez (Assistant Editor & Content Writer) – The chaotic engine behind our copy, marketing campaigns, and public relations. If you see us causing a ruckus on social media, screaming into the void, or hyping up our authors across the web, Draften is usually the one pulling the trigger.

A glimpse of what is coming out of the shadows:

💀 Jordan Zachary: Unleashes The Skull, a razor-sharp YA coming-of-age nightmare that forces you to stare directly into the dark, fractured introspection of your own mind.

💀 Sofia Rodriguez: Drifts in straight from the frozen landscapes of Scandinavia to deliver a chilling piece of speculative climate horror. She dissects human consciousness, fractured memory, and the raw existential terror of what it truly means to be alive after the world collapses.

💀 Mia Dalia: This LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, first-generation immigrant author presents The Last Word—a masterclass in literary horror forged in the fires of real-life terrors. It stands as a beautifully devastating, cathartic meditation on grief, broken communication, and the absolute collapse of meaning.

💀 Gaia Norten: Hailing from Czechoslovakia, Kohn brings a highly intellectual, pitch-black satire that takes a buzzsaw to human origin and evolution in her groundbreaking thesis, What Does a Monkey Think? Prepare yourself—this is the cosmic satire equivalent of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for lovers of works that challenge everything we know about our species.

💀 Rob McLaughlin: The undisputed Master of Culinary Horror drags us kicking and screaming into Carnytown, a visceral journey stripping back his twisted universe to its raw, bloody origins.

💀 Jonas Tschugguel: Emerging from the historic shadows of Vienna, Austria, this queer author weaves a tapestry of beautifully dark, poetic prose in The Artist’s Fruition—where creative obsession bleeds into pure madness.

💀 Lilly LaChance: A trans woman, immigrant, and award-winning filmmaker based in Montreal, LaChance delivers For One More Mouthful of Manna. This gloriously disturbing, cannibalistic whodunnit serves as a sickening exploration into what it truly means to live "Forever."

💀 C. P. Flether: Kansas City’s own psychological horror savant throws open the doors to the funhouse in The Mirror Never Lies. Strap in as she drags you screaming down a rabbit hole of absolute madness where perception is your worst enemy.

💀 Cody Creiger: Spain-born Caribbean writer Cody Creiger brings us Perfect, a high-intellect piece of body horror depravity wrapped in a gothic psychological drama. Creiger rips open the flesh to expose the destructive, deeply unsettling nature of internalized racism, body dysmorphia, and the desperate, bloody desire for assimilation.

💀 …and many more brilliant voices waiting on the horizon!

Our Evolution: We are trading our classic skull ink jar for a sleek, modern rebranding that retains our dark roots but refines our look. Alongside it, we are launching a complete website overhaul—which means a faster, more responsive experience (and yes, a drastic reduction of our Founder and Editorial Director, TL Hutton’s long-winded text! HA! Know you all love that! You are welcome!)

The Authors: Get ready to plunge into the minds of our incredible roster. We are pulling back the veil with exclusive sneak peeks into their upcoming books dropping very soon:

Thank you for being the vital lifeblood pumping through this press. The future is a dark, beautiful monster, and we cannot wait to dissect it with you.

Upcoming Darkness:

💀 Introducing Anatomia Socialis – A New Quarterly Ezine dedicated to short fiction authors and readers exploring structural, cultural, and systemic rot. Submissions are open. Guidelines on our Submissions page.

💀 Upcoming Anthology: Submissions are open for a powerful new anthology under the theme: Beneath the False Dawn of Concrete Gods: Dark Tales of the American Nightmare. Guidelines on our Submissions page.

💀 Draften Scribez Presents: Praise or Punishment
Our chaotic engine and content writer is taking over the bandwaves (FCC be warned). This dedicated new hub—living simultaneously on the OSP site and Substack—brings her content creation magic to life. Expect lethal reviews, deep-dive author interviews, and essays cutting straight into culture and sociopolitical anxieties. Alongside her commentary, this space will feature monthly ultra-short fiction (under 500 words) spotlighting marginalized authors from our upcoming ezine, Anatomia Socialis.

👉 Subscribe to Draften Scribez Presents on OSP and Substack Now or bookmark the dedicated tab on our website so you never miss a drop!

💀Virtual "Underground" Panels: Quarterly, unfiltered live discussions with our authors tackling heavy topics like "Wandering the Wasteland: Reclaiming the Narrative" and "The Horror of the Bureaucracy."

💀 Cultura Nocturna Street Team: We are gamifying our ARC process! Join our exclusive street team to earn digital badges, get behind-the-scenes editorial access, and unlock direct chats with editors in exchange for honest launch-week reviews on Goodreads, Amazon, and blogs.

💀 Horror with a Heart: We are incredibly proud to announce our upcoming MMIW collaboration, where 100% of net profits will be donated directly to the National Indigenous Women's Resource Center (NIWRC) to support their critical mission.

💀 We’ve invaded TikTok (Yes, we are as frightened as you!). Follow @obsidian.skull.press to witness the beautiful maniacs behind the press causing absolute ruckus in real time.
